Conservatism Today

Andrew Sullivan has a wry comment that a conservative government that has to interfere in baseball and the right of a single Florida woman to live in pain or die with dignity is not a conservative government at all.

Frankly, I think this manner of meddling is exactly the hallmark of a conservative government, and I wonder why he's so surprised about it.

I find this manner of meddling a hallmark of a liberal government. In fact this is the kind of thing that made me a conservative in the first place. Now I left with the unfortunate conundrum of voting for a party that wants expanded government or a party that was MORE expanded government. Its unfortunate that modern conservatives have decided that the only way they can compete against modern democratic liberalism is to beat them at their own game. God we need third parties!

Actually, this kind of meddling is the hallmark of government in general. Sadly, I think it's an extension of the party/ideology in power, not necessarily a liberal/conservative thing. The fact of the matter is, we just need less damn government - or less powers!!!

Could not have said it better myself!
